Dear Fourth Graders,
Welcome to the fourth grade and room 114! I hope you had a fantastic summer and you are ready to begin a great 4th grade school year. I’d like to introduce myself, so you can know a bit about me. I live in Medford with my husband, my son, a cat, and a dog. Our cat’s name is Abe, after my husband’s favorite historical figure, Abraham Lincoln. FYI, Abe is a girl cat. Our dog's name is Maxine, but we call her Max. She turned three years old in May. She loves to hike and chase squirrels. Our son, Otis, will be one year old in December.
The rest of my family lives in Maryland and Pennsylvania. I grew up in Maryland on the Elk River. We went water skiing and tubing in the summer. We had a dog whose name was Charlie. She would sometimes swim out to where we were boating to make sure we were OK. When she did this, however, she often would scare the daylights out of me! I would be waiting for the ski line and then feel this wet thing skim across my back. With a gasp, I would spin around to see Charlie panting with the effort of swimming, her eyes assessing my safety.
As you can tell, Charlie had some parenting tendencies. She had some ways in which she would “care” for us. For example, we would leave our shoes on the beach while we went out on the boat. When we returned, our shoes would be gone! Charlie would attempt to carry them home. Unfortunately, she would drop one shoe along the way, never to found…
I have two sisters, Mindy and Chris. Mindy lives in Annapolis, Maryland. That’s where I used to live. Annapolis reminds me of a mini Boston. Mindy is married and has two kids. Chris lives in Pennsylvania. She’s also married and has two kids. Her oldest, Kenny, is in sixth grade and is a fantastic baseball player and gives me lots of book recommendations.
Finally, there’s me. This is my nineteenth year teaching. I’ve taught second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. I love teaching as much as I love learning. That’s probably why I became a teacher. It’s a fabulous day for me when I learn something new! I think kids are pretty awesome, too. Throughout the years, I look forward to seeing my students everyday. Their enthusiasm, kindness, humor, and creativity makes me love my job even more!
I can’t wait to get to know you better. I think we’re going to have a terrific year. Remember you can always come to me with any questions or worries you have. Let’s make this the best school year ever!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Azia
